Even More Hawaiian Adventures

Hi, families! We are having a great time here in Hawaii. Since we last wrote to you, we visited the Volcanoes National Park and have been swimming. The B's didn't get any pictures of us at the volcano - man it was really windy. We would have been blown away! But here is a picture of what we saw, anyway. There were craters, rough lava, smooth lava, cinder cone sand then by the sea we saw the sea arch. Unfortunately, the surface lava is flowing in an area that they have closed to the public because it is not safe to go there, so we did not see any new surface flows.
The next morning we went swimming at Hapuna Bay. Man, the water was so nice and warm. The waves on this side of the island are more gentle, and the bay is a little protected. We loved sitting on Little B's swimboard and just floating around. We were really glad that we were carried to the water, though. That sand was HOT!
Well, we haven't downloaded any more pictures, so we'll sign off and get ready to head to a new beach!
Hope to write again soon.

More Hawaiian Adventures

Hi, family.
I am in Hawaii and am having a great time. We have been to coffee farms and got to see different ways to grow coffee, and of course, taste the different blends. We have been swimming a lot. Somtimes we go to a beach close by - its got a really long name, but mostpeople call it A Bay. It is fun, and the pool at theHilton is awesome.

Wednesday was Little B's birthday, and she wanted to have lunch at Bubba Gump Shrimp Company. Here is a picture of us together. Funky Monkey really likes to get dressed up with the plumeria flowers we find here on the island. Isn't he cute? After lunch we went to the market to shop, and then in the evening we went to the Hilton's pool to watch the dive-in movie. It was a lot of fun. Here's a picture of us together in the lounge chair waiting for the movie to start. We did not get into the pool because we didn't want to get our hair wet, but the Little Band she-who-must-not-be-named enjoyed swimming and watching the movie. After it got dark we could see the stars because the sky was so clear. How cool!

Well, got to run and see what else we can discover.

Hawaii

Dear Family:

Well, we are here in Hawaii and are having a wonderfultime - wish you were here!

On Monday, July 30, we went to two coffee farms that specialize in Kona coffee. Our first stop was at Kona Joe's. They grow their coffee on trellises like they grow wine grapes. That was neat to see.
We then went over to Greenwell Farms and took their tour. It was really interesting to see the old coffee trees and how they process the beans. We got to taste some of the coffee. It was really hot, and it tastes very smooth. You know I usually like cream in my coffee, but with this you don't even need it!

We have been swimming at the beach several times. Our favorite so far is a place they call A Bay. It has a name that is around 6 syllables long, but it is easier to say A Bay. The sand is made up of white coarse sand mixed with lava sand - and that sand is black. It is very different from the white sandy beaches of, say, Sarasota, Florida. There are lava rocks out inthe bay and there are fish and turtles that swim around there.

We have been swimming at the Hilton, also. By the way, it has a really cool slide there, and the pool goes on and on! Well, I had better run. It is almost time for the dive-in movie down at the pool, and we don't want to miss the show!

Will write again soon.
Love,
Funky Monkey
